I subscribe to the blog RSS at ConsumerReports.org and feel i should share these:

Report finds FDA lax in spinach inspections

NHTSA improves grading system for child safety seats

Because I CARE about safety and since the U.S. has the money to do sooooo much research, we should help educate the world! :)

Car Seat Safety, Be Smart…

March 10, 2008

Forward Facing Car SeatLast Staurday we turned my son’s seat forward facing. Yeah! I got an email from my sister, who just bought the next seat for her daughter. I came across this article in my email I get from BabyCenter: Car Seat mistakes

Please be careful, read the manual - and yes there are laws but there are also recommendations from the manufacturer. Um they made the seat they know it’s purpose and limits. I cringe seeing kids being held. Yes, at least once a week I see an infant being held in the front seat, guess which one… yep the driver! baby in one hand and the wheel in the other. maybe i will try to get a photo - i’mso in shock when i see it… they are just soooo uneducated. I mean we sat in the back seat unbuckled and surely w/o a booster. But I will never forget, after starting to wear it around 10 or so, i never stopped. I even remember telling my dad to wear his!

Anyhoot, please don’t try to “test the research/ knowledge gained” and/or “results of fatal car accidents” just buckle up and your kids too (nieces, nephews, friends…) I rather have them mad at me then not able to physically speak or breathe again. Harsh, yes , and a possible reality I rather not test!

as ‘they’ say… Buckle Up!

Think SAFETY!!

March 6, 2008

Safety First! My heart sunk as I read the below article… My first thought is.. “what are people thinking”? But then, I think people just don’t know! It’s so sad. If an accident is POTENTIAL, then don’t do it. If it’s POSSIBLE then that means there is a chance it CAN happen, so why do it? Like wear seatbelts, I’m shocked how many still dont. And READ, read the books of anything you buy - yes the VCR and anything else and it’s not too late… Look up the USER MANUALS online if you don’t have it. Your fridge, your hair dryer, your ANYTHING! You’ll be educted and informed of things you may not have thought of. Whether you have a GED or PHD - READ these important manuals from those who MADE and TESTED IT! ESPECIALLY your car manual. You’ll be very surprised, I bet. I hate to be the first to tell you and I’m in the same boat too…. You don’t know everything! I know it’s hard to admit. It’s ok, I’m here for you to remeind you ;) and support you. I’m always learning new stuff especially since we have children. Their products have so much good info in their manuals and tags. Read Read, Read! or research! I was in a nursery where it was “OK” for kids to get in a plastic container with the lid on it. The adults in charge defended it 3 times strongly that is was “OK!” - Wow I was shocked at the lack of knowledge or regard for safety these days!

Here’s the article:

Man Dies When Wind Flips Mattress He Was Moving

Hurts to read doesn’t it. He may not have known the dangers or did and chose anyway. Either way, I was bummed it was “weather related” !
